In this episode Susan and Stephan discuss the differences between the progressive and direct paths. Stephan brings a unique perspective on both approaches as he is a former Zen monk who later studied under Jean Klein and Adyashanti and is himself a teacher of non duality, as well as being a psychotherapist.

Susan and Stephan reflect on the differences between an intellectual understanding of the teachings and Self realization and what it is that wakes up.

Stephan gives a flavor of what he will be teaching in his live 4 part Workshop in October, Discover Your Natural State of Awakened Awareness:

 ABOUT STEPHAN

Stephan began his spiritual practice with Shunryu Suzuki, author of Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, and received ordination as a monk in 1974 from Kobun Chino. After leaving the monastic life in the early ‘80s, he spent a decade as a student of Advaita master Jean Klein, and after Jean’s death in 1998 he spent several years in intimate study with Adyashanti, who invited him to teach.
As well as being a spiritual teacher, Stephan is trained as a psychotherapist and he has been a pioneer in the integration of Eastern wisdom and Western psychology and in the embodiment of awakened awareness in everyday life. His approach to teaching and counseling blends compassionate self-inquiry, nondual insight, and transformational techniques from the field of psychotherapy. Drawing on his decades of experience as a therapist and teacher, he specializes in offering guidance that is custom tailored to the needs of the individual seeker.
