I love new beginnings. Why wait until the new year to be entirely brand new?
Why wait? Wouldn't it be fun if you were able to have a whole new life starting now?
A Course in Miracles tells us “The past is over. I let it go.”
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the phrase “letting go”.
A Course in Miracles also tells us that we can’t let go of what is already gone. Haha. I have always loved that idea. We make such a big deal about “letting go” of our grievances and “letting go” of our self-concepts, but they are already gone!
Many people spend years and decades trying to let go of the self-image they made. You can do it in an instant. Right now.
The idea of “letting go” is as simple as having a pen in your hand and opening your hand up and the pen drops out. There is no effort. There is no trying. There is no process. It doesn’t take years or decades. You simply stop holding on. Open your hand and what you were holding onto drops away automatically.
So letting go of the past is not a process. It’s already over. If you stop holding on — to your stories, thoughts, beliefs, memory, problems, hurts, disappointments and guilt — the thing drops away.
Now, don’t pick it up.
You do not have to “let go” like it’s some big deal. Simply stop holding on.
Many people say “I can’t let this go” and all that means is that they don’t want to. That’s okay. If someone want to hold onto hurts and grievances, that is their decision.
They can let go, but they don’t want to. That’s fine. But at least now, it’s recognized as something held onto.
Whenever you think you “can’t let go” of something, at least be honest and say: “I can let go. But I don’t want to. I want to hold onto this hurt, this pain. It’s important to me.”
That’s being in power. That’s a huge step for someone who previously thought they were a victim.
Then at least they know that they are the one holding on. Here is absolute freedom.
And when you have had enough of pain and conflict, you still stop holding on. You will stop telling the story. You will stop describing the problem.
Let go.
I love the ideas in A Course in Miracles that directly and simply tell us to relinquish guilt. Can it be that easy?? Can we just relinquish guilt and be done with it?
Yes, you can.
It says “All your problems have been solved.”
Past tense.
So whenever there seems to a problem or difficulty, it is for one reason only: I am holding onto it and not letting go.
I realized at some point in my own life that each one of us can completely let go of the routines and patterns that we held ourselves into.
Imagine having a new beginning, a clean slate. Imagine waking up in the morning and not carrying yesterday into the now.
How would things change for you?
The only way to know for sure is to try it. Find out.
