Tune in to the insightful words in the clip below about the ego, dealing with fear and anger, what makes us feel separate and accepting the Divine within... from a recent Center for Awakening Live session of Amy Haible's "Advaita in ACIM" (non-dual teachings in A Course in Miracles) — one of 5 sessions offered free each week.
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:
It's so important to accept the Divine within us because that is the power through which the ego is seen as the object it is because it's only love that can stop looking through that glass darkly, that can pierce that veil. When we witness the ego at work, when we watch our thoughts which are really all the ego is, we watch the thoughts come and go, we watch the fear thoughts come up, that's ego. We watch the angry thoughts come up, that's the ego which is constantly trying to reinforce itself and its worldview by getting you to be afraid and feel separate.
But what is it that's watching these thoughts? What is it that is aware that the thoughts are arising? It is that awareness in which the ego is contained. The ego is arising within this consciousness. The ego is totally unaware of consciousness.
It's not capable of seeing or perceiving or experiencing consciousness. It is consciousness that experiences the ego. And when we become firmly established as that witness and identified as that consciousness, we see that the ego is just passing through.
Watching thoughts come up, you will get to know your ego well. Anytime you feel fear or anger or resistance, even irritation, that is always a moment to pay attention because the only time fear or irritation or anger comes up is when we feel separate from the source. So if fear comes up, if anger comes up, that's a clue.
Oh, for some reason, and we can go back through self-inquiry and uncover what that is, I am feeling separate. Is that true that I'm separate? Let's look. Let's take a look.
Am I separate? No. Because when I'm the witness, when I am in my own silent being, my presence, my being, there's only peace, there's only boundarylessness. I don't remember in that state have I ever been born in my consciousness, in my silent being, my presence? No.
There's no memory of being born. Is there any death there? No. No.
It's just presence. So the ego is just a little fluttering in that, it's a little movement in that pure silent peace. Because it's really a choice between a dream or reality.
And we can dream for as long as we want, but reality is always there. So just love what you are, you know, love whatever, because you are not present. There's no individual.
So love whatever consciousness is expressing through you in the moment. Just love it. And sometimes it feels like absolute crap.
And that's okay. It's okay to have a hissy fit about it. You know, just don't blame someone else for it.
Don't project it onto the world or something else. Just stay as the witness, allowing it. It's like a volcano can be erupting in you while you're sitting in meditation like this, you know, just witnessing as consciousness moves itself through you.
